Roborock Error 1: What It Means and How to Fix It

What Error 1 means

On most Roborock models, Error 1 means the top laser distance sensor (LDS / LiDAR turret) is blocked, jammed, or not spinning. The robot cannot map, so cleaning fails or the app keeps reporting Error 1.

This is one of the most common Roborock faults we see in Brisbane — and most cases clear with careful cleaning. A tower that still will not spin after it is free usually needs module service, not more DIY force.

Quick checks (2–5 minutes)

1. Power the robot off and lift the hair / dust ring around the LDS tower. 2. Gently turn the turret by hand. It should spin freely with light resistance — not grind or stick. 3. Clear fluff, pet hair, and grit from the well under the tower. 4. Wipe the transparent window so the laser can see. 5. Power on and run a short clean. If Error 1 returns with a free-spinning tower, stop DIY.

When to stop DIY

Do not pry open sealed housings or soak the LDS motor. If the turret is free but Error 1 keeps returning, the LDS motor or module usually needs bench work.
